Environmental Impact Statement

Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma

Get Involved

Citizens, elected officials, special interest groups, Native American tribal nations, and local, state, and federal agencies were encouraged to get involved in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) development process by attending the public scoping meetings, reading the information provided on this website, reviewing the Draft EIS, and providing public comments.  Public comments were accepted during the public scoping period in 2024 and the Draft EIS public comment period in 2025.

Public Scoping

The public scoping period went from June 4 to July 8, 2024, whereby the public was given an opportunity to provide initial input on the action and the environmental resources to be addressed in the EIS.  As part of the public scoping process, the Air Force held in-person public scoping meetings on Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The meetings used an open-house format with poster stations, and no formal presentation was provided.  A comment table was available for attendees to submit comments.  The public scoping materials remain available on the Documents page of this website.

Draft EIS

The Draft EIS was released to the public on August 29, 2025, for a 45-day public comment period. The Draft EIS can be downloaded from the Documents page of this website.

While in-person or virtual public meetings/hearings were not held for the Draft EIS, a pre-recorded slideshow presenting the findings of the Draft EIS was developed and can be viewed here:

Final EIS

While the Air Force did not solicit public input on the Final EIS, it was published on April 24, 2026, for the public to read and can be downloaded from the Documents page.  Shortly, the Air Force will sign a Record of Decision to select an alternative for implementation and explain the reasons for that selection.  The signed Record of Decision is expected by summer 2026 and will be posted to this website when available.
